While I’m at university can I still horseback ride?
The university I am going to does not have an equestrian team. I dont think I can live a life without horses. So, is it possible that I could leave campus and go to a nearby farm? Please help!
Not during class, but if you have a couple hours after class and no work or assignments, by all means – find a local farm and take an hour’s lesson so you stay connected!
You can still horseback ride, but unless you lease your horse out, horse ownership during university can be very difficult.
I would say that every weekend you can also go riding – you’ll have loads of time.
Depending on what you’re studying to be, horseback riding may be really good – like if you’re studying equine science or equine management, or going for a job where you need to be very fit… horseback riding, if done properly, can and will make you very fit and full of knowledge after doing it for a couple years.
You want to be sure that you’re not mixing up riding with your education – I mean, the last thing you want is a poor mark on an assignment because you only had a couple hours to finish it, all because of a late-night lesson you had at the barn.
Have it all planned out – do your work accurately and properly for school, then go out to the barn. I know that at the moment, riding must be your number one priority – but in university, your assignments and classes come first, and riding will come second… it’s hard to juggle both, but after doing it for a couple months, you’ll learn how to estimate whether you have time for an evening or early morning ride or not.
Hope you do well in university, and I wish you all the best in the saddle.
