What are the largest equestrian events in the United States, in terms of number of people that attend?
I am doing research that requires me to compare these events around specific dates (between 2002 and the present) with theatrical sales in areas that host these events. I have found a list of ALL equestrian events in all regions – but is there any way to narrow down this list just to the major events, that would bring many people to a certain locale at the same time? Appreciate any help!
Well, the biggest is probably the FEI World Equestrian Games that was held in Lexington KY in late September-early October 2010. Annually, there is the Rolex Three-Day Event in Lexington (late April). I would also suggest you search for “largest rodeo” or similar terms, and anything with “championship” in the name. Are you including horse racing? If so, there are the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes, and the Breeders’ Cup races. I think the Travers is pretty heavily attended as well.
