Questions about getting a horse?
How much room do you need for a horse? (would be on out own property)
Aprox How much would it cost annually to have a horse kept on your own property (don’t have to pay for boarding) if I already have all the grooming supplies and tack and I would be doing the shots myself?
Would you need more than one horse or could one live on it’s own? (I would get a mare)
Also I know I am not ready to get a horse now.. like I get that. I am only leasing now but my mom said we will move to an acreage this summer and then we can get a horse latter on like in a year or two (I would continue to do lessons and lease during this time)

Also if I had a horse I would ride every day or every second day.. I would probably ride 5 times a week just so she could have 2 days break as that is how often I ride my lease horse right now and she is fine with it. So yeah, I would ride her and work with her a lot.

A: depends on the state you live in. some states require 1 acre per horse, others are lenient.
really, figure room enough for a shelter and for the horse to move around comfortably.

A: lol. if everyone could figure this one, then people who can’t really afford a horse would never end up getting one. you will pay something different for everything….compared to someone who lives in a different county/state/country.
If you really want to know for yourself….go to the feed store and look at the prices of food.
Call the vets in your area and ask about prices for farm calls, shots, teeth floating,….
Call your local trimmers or farriers to find out how much they cost.
Also…where would you ride? at home? will there be room? will you get bored and stop riding? will you need a trailer to go out and ride?

A: your horse would love to have another horse or another animal like a goat for company. horses are herd animals….like people….they live in a society, not alone.
And I would not recommend a mare. get a gelding. mares have monthly pms….or not…you never know. with a gelding….there are no hormones. plus….no mare goo running out of their personables. ick! no squirting pee either. ick! no…”I have cramps! I don’t want to be ridden!” either….

A: Well then you have time to do some real research then. Talk to the people at your barn and find out about stuff. Buy books on horse behavior.
