Laptop Adapter Stripped, and I Messed It Up Further. Help?
Yesterday, I noticed that my ac laptop adapter’s rubber insulation had peeled back and exposed a small amount of wire. I had to leave soon, so I grabbed some grabbed my bottle of Ultimate Glue (Elmer’s version of Gorilla Glue), dabbed it over the hole/crack, and left. The glue takes four hours to dry, so I left and checked on it next morning.
I forgot the glue expands like 3x its size.(foams and bubbles up). The expanding glue pulled the exposed wire apart, so now I can’t use my charger.
1. Is there anything I can use to get the glue out? I got a tack and picked as much as I can out, but I don’t want to further damage the wire.
2. Once I get all the glue out, is there anything I can do to reattach the wires? (Like just soldering them together)
BTW, the crack is between the transformer and the laptop, not the transformer and the wall outlet.
Really not much you can do about the glue other than pick and scrape it off. As for the wire, if you know someone who knows how to solder, and there’s enough wire to work with, then you can re-solder it (make sure to insulate them correctly, heat-shrink tubing should work well). If not enough wire and it’s right at the transformer, then it might require taking the transformer apart, but that usually is very difficult and other damage can result. It might be easier to purchase a replacement adapter.
