When you clean a horse’s sheath with Excalibur do you have to wipe all of the Excalibur out?
I was just watching a video on Stateline Tack about it and it said that you can clean it with Excalibur or ivory soap or KY jelly. It said you don’t have to rinse the KY Jelly out if you use that but what about ivory soap/Excalibur?
I’m just here to agree with Meagan…..I use K-Y jelly. It is water soluble so it doesn’t have to be rinsed, and won’t cause irritation which impairs the integrity of the skin. Any products that require rinsing can irritate tissue and end up being the cause of infections and oversecretion of smegma, which is not desirable. Excalibur and Ivory soap are among those. Less is more, and using K-Y jelly is the least irritating way to still effectively get the job done. K-Y jelly has been preferred for these kinds of jobs in human medicine/nursing for a long long time.
Add….the active ingredient in Excalibur is tea tree oil. It is a known antimicrobial, which means it will kill not only pathogenic microbes, but will also kill the normal protective bacterial flora on skin. There are no studies confirming that leaving tea tree oil on skin cannot lead to absorption and toxicity. It has caused toxic responses when ingested. So it should be thoroughly rinsed off when it is used. It can also prompt allergic responses. K-Y jelly doesn’t cause any of these potential effects…it simply allows you to soften accumulations of dirt and smegma so they can be removed.
