Should i take a tent? Help please!?

Me and my friend are taking our two horses to Southern Ireland, for a trekking holiday, i used to live there and we still have land, where we will have the box and stay most of the time. But some nights we want to go out further and spend the night in a tent. But, since we’ll be riding, we need to fit everything in two saddle bags. I don’t really know what to do, but i remember from when i did CCF at school we used bashas, but i remember that they were cold and horrible. But can i get bigger ones and would this be a better solution? Please help! We go in like 2 weeks!

There are some very small lightweight tents around.
I use a Coleman Raid when I want a tiny tent with me. It’s rated as a summer tent but I’ve stayed dry in on the rain-lashed windy coast of Galway and on lovely Inishmoor in some nasty weather.
It’s a lying down tent, only about three feet high, with a side opening that zips all the way along.
The new version is called the Rigil and is a bit wider than mine so two people can fit in, but only just. You have to be very good friends to sleep in a tent this small.

If you’re not going to do a lot of camping you won’t need to spend much to get a tent that stays dry. The expensive ones can last for many years of rough use in bad weather.
For £50 you can get a Eurohike or similar tent from Millets that is big enough for two people to sleep in without squashing up and will stand up to bad wind and rain if you pitch it tight so it works properly.
Loosely pitched tents get hammered by the wind and can collapse instead of the wind just blowing over them.

Millets have loads of special offers and you can sometimes get a good two person tent for £30.
If you’re lucky you’ll find a Vango tent going cheap…Vango are very good.
They make the Force Ten tents used on Everest as well as ordinay tents for normal camping. Mine has been brilliant.
You’ll need some shelter on the moors at this time of year so it’s best to have a tent of some sort with you and a warm sleeping bag and a couple of space blankets which work wonders at warming you up. Lay one on the floor of the tent and then you’ll sleep warmer.
Here are some tent answers with links to manufacturers and some piching info.
My answer on the first one got sent to another site but it was on Yahoo Answers to start with.
