Why are the western societies so obsessed with safety?
Back in the 19th century, it was ok for a kid to shoot a gun and drink a beer while doing it, and for someone to ride a horse without a helmet. it was ok to build a fire in your back yard and have 100 ppl in a 10 square foot room. you could slip on a wet floor and just cuss out the store owner then laugh about it, ya know. now i cant, even in the privacy of my own car, take off my seat belt and text message while driving. and the Govt wonders why its so poor, its because the laws of Darwinism (survival of the fittest) is being broken by society’s standards of general good health. there was a reason for the low life spans, to make room for the coming generations. now were up to what 6 billion ppl in the world. I for one don’t want to live a day past 60. so in closing, why are the western societies so obsessed with safety?

Firstly because we have improved our understanding and compassion and it is never good to see someone hurt or killed over stupidity.
Also we have become a very litigious or law suing society, people sue over everything so having to take precautions and is necessary.
Also you do not understand Darwin theory of evolution at all. Survival of the fittest means that the fittest for the environment. As in any things that was best suited to adapt and survive the environment. It does not mean health or anything like that.
Also to play it safe like wearing seat belts has meant that a lot less people aer in hospital with paraplegia or brain damage and then society has to pay for their recovery or care.
Unnecessary deaths or injuries is not only inhumane but a huge cost in terms of money, time and resources.
So there are very good reason to have good safety standards and good health care.
Yes the world is overpopulated but to allow disease and suffering is not a good way of dealing with that.
Good education about family planning and contraception and good acces to adequate health services is the answer.
