Questions about Holsteiner horses?
I have a few questions about Holsteiners.
1. How do you pronounce “holsteiner”
2. What are they best for? (disciplines, etc.)
3. How are their temperaments? (example: thoroughbreds are often considered “hot”)
4. What level of rider would it be good for?
5. What’s the average price for a 6 year old that has some jumping and dressage training?
6. Are they laid back and not-spooky? Are they pretty much bomb-proof and reliable? With some training, of course
I am looking for a new horse (not now, in a year or so, when my current horse’s lease comes up) I jump 3′, am taking low-level dressage lessons, like trail riding (and doing things that sometimes require us to tie our horses to trees and leave them for a few minutes) and galloping.
Would a Holsteiner be good for me? I want this to be the horse I ride all through high school, and take to college with me. I want to ride on the equestrian team in college.
Thanks!!
1. Hole-stine-er
2. They excell at dressage and jumping. They are very common on the hunter circuit near me.
3. They are pretty calm for the most part. Different horses within the breed will be hot or calm so there is not set temperment.
4. This depends on training but for the most part they are used by advanced riders because of their price.
5. Depends on your area, how much training, breeding, looks, personality, health and potential
6. They are pretty laid back for the most part but training, handleing and personality play into how spooky they are.
This breed would probably work for you but dont rule out other breeds as well. Thoroughbreds and other warmblood breeds are just as gifted at dressage and jumping.
I do know that many colleges will not let you bring your own horse to ride on the team. You would have to donate it to the school and that means anyone can ride it.
