Equestrian Vacations?
Has anyone been on one? If so, what company did you go with (I’ve looked a lot into Equitours, but I’ve looked into a couple of others as well) and how did you like it? Where did you go, and/or where do you think would be the best place to go for horseback riding (meaning I don’t want to go somewhere that I will get just as much out of walking and a normal vacation as I will from riding)? Was it much more expensive than booking a trip yourself without the horses? Thanks!
YES! I’ve been on 7… 1-2x a year since my husband and I moved to Germany. Why save money for the future when i can spend it all now on once in a life time opportunities?!!
))
We used Hidden Trials for the ones we didn’t arrange ourselves. You can look up the trips I mention on the HT internet site. The Hidden Trails rides were all MUCH better than our own creations!
LOVED IT!! Our latest was in Sept. to Zimbabwe, by for the best holiday experience I’ve ever had in my life!!! Organized, safe, fun, just the two of us and two guides, and very friendly helpful people. The ride cost less than the plane tickets, which the military bought. :0))))))
My second favorite was in Scotland near Inverary. (sp?) Both this and Africa were Inn to Inn… sleeping in a different place every night. Gorgeous!! Third favorite was in Austria in the Alps. Rode halflingers to heights and danger people would hesitate to walk on! Amazing beauty!! Fourth favorite, Andalusia, Spain. FAST beach rides and prime apartment on the beach. We arranged Malta, France, and Ireland.So bad, I don’t know how to describe.
On all the hidden trail tours, we rode good horses very fast!!. In Ireland, we had the options to jump the stone walls and ride in the Lochs, or go around. Fun!!! In all, there was choices of saddle types. Keep in mind I’m disabled and required that I NEVER had to get off the horse and walk, and that I could not us3e my stirrups. They all found horses I could do this with, no matter how high the jump, steep the mountain, fast the gallop, or scary the wild lion. Awesome!!!
No, we always chose lower priced trips, never over $2000 (usually closer to 1000) per person, including all meals and lodging for 1-2 weeks. Transportation, sightseeing, extra events, all included! Ya gotta buy your own plane ticket. Considering the average hotel room is over $100 to$300 a night (in a hunting lodge), this is a good deal. When going on a normal vacation, by the time be include meals, fun stuff, hotels, and transportation in the area, we’re always way over the cost of a riding holiday.
( Food and hotels KILL ya in cost!! Our trip to Malta (1 week) was the worse thing ever and cost twice the price of 2 weeks in Africa. We only rode three days and by then were counting down the days until we could leave. Great place with an organized tour of any kind in the right time of year.
