Should I change equestrian centers?
So I own a Bay Off-The-Track Thoroughbred Gelding and I originally brought him to the barn where I had ridden for 4yrs prior. Now they are upping their board costs from $350 to $400. The barn is older, built about 30yrs ago and beginning to run down. As far as school horses, quite a few have died of natural causes and others have been sold as of lately. Only two are at my riding level as of now. This barn is 30min away from me. They teach natural horsemanship.
I am thinking of changing to a barn about 3min away from my house, built only 3yrs ago, and much nicer all together. Although it has less ring space and open field, it does have 27 trails and the entire neighborhood is open to horses. The trainer here is a former competetor in the Grand Prix. The board is $450.
So I’m trying to decide if I should change. What do you all think?
$450 is quite cheap for a barn as nice as you describe with a Grand Prix trainer. I’d probably more there. But it depends a lot on what your goals are and what you want to do with your horse. If you just want to trail ride, it’d be kind of silly to board at a fancy training barn.
But to me it sounds like you’re already unsatisfied with your old barn, so moving is probably for the best. The best thing about the new barn is that it’s so close to your house. No doubt, this means you’ll be able to spend much more time with your beloved horse. That sounds like a win-win to me!
