Are those new non-velvet helmets really permissible in the hunter/jumper or equitation ring?
I’m returning to equestrian competition after several years’ absence. Last I checked, helmets had to be velvet all over — but now I’m seeing lots of new models with hard non-velvet strips down the middle or (even cooler) non-velvet matte surface all over. I prefer a very conservative turnout; are these really all right?
You don’t mention where you are… Best bet is to check with your local jurisdiction. In Canada, it would be the provincial federation – they establish and enforce the rules for all recognized equestrian competition.
