How do you balance everything? (college equestrian teams)?
I mean, all the school work and class time, plus having to work to pay rent, other utility bills, insurances, board, farrier, vet, loan payments, gas money, savings, and still having spending money.
Then add the practices to your schedule. Do you have a life after it all?
I was just thinking if I could possibly do that. There’s no way I could get by with only having time for a part-time job.
well i’m glad you asked
as you maybe know, i’m going to college in the fall, and my horse is coming with. and we’re joining the equestrian team. so i haven’t yet experienced it, but i can tell you what i have planned.
payments: i over-budgetted for next year, to make sure i’ll have plenty. and just in case i don’t have time for a job next year, i’m going to work a hell of a lot this summer to make sure i have enough for next year. you don’t pay rent & utilities your freshman year; you live in a dorm, so it’s included. gas money…board close so it’s low. board/farrier/vet…you do that now, so it’s nothing new.
time: i haven’t planned my schedule yet, but i’m hoping to get either all morning classes, so i could spend my time out at the barn in the afternoon, or i can get my classes where i have at least a 3 hour block between classes so i could get to the farm between class. then there are weekends. i’m an elementary ed major, so i’m hoping i won’t be overwhelmed in the acedemic category.
practices: often on weekends, so that shouldn’t conflict.
do you have a life: it is your life. if you don’t want it that way, the equestrian team isn’t right. where i’m going, the eq team is very, very tight knit. they hang out with each other to do non-horse related things, and they grow very close, being together all the time.
and are you saying you would need more than a part time job? sorry to burst your bubble if it’s something you were looking forward to, but there’s no way you can work full time (40 hours a week), go to school full time, and be on a team/club.
my life is going to be hectic next year, and i probably won’t have a ton of party time, but i’m okay with that. i’d rather spend my time with my horse/horse people/at the barn, then at a party. but that’s me. if that isn’t you, an eq team wouldn’t be right.
