CHA Level 4 Rider Requirements?
For five years I attended an equestrian camp that certified riders following Certified Horsemanship Association guidelines, and in my third or fourth year I was tested and qualified as level 4. I’ve begun to look for a job and would like to include this on my resume, however, I am not quite sure what the exact level 4 requirements were. If anyone could link me to them or tell me, that’d be great.
I’m looking for the RIDER requirements please, not instructor ![]()
Thank you!
Level 4 is the highest level that the CHA offers. It basically means that the rider holds enough experience and knowledge to work on higher levels of advanced riding and skill. As far as knowledge goes, the level 4 rider should have the ability to determine behavior problems and their roots, selection and suitability of horses and their jobs, knowledge of horse conformation, unsoundness, preventative health care, hoof care, signs of health, illnesses, and first aid. As a rider, they need to have a truly independent seat, hand, a complete knowledge of the aids and their application, relaxation and rhythm, lead changes, and all lateral work. I believe (I can’t find my level 4 rider’s manual and it isn’t listed in the instructors manual) that jump height is set at 3′.
The only difference between the rider requirement and the instructor requirement is the ability to teach those things to other riders in a group setting safely.
