Different Show Jumping Bit?
I ride right now in a three-ring elevator bit that has a jointed mouth piece. It isnt legal for my equestrian team and my coach thinks that i shouldnt use it for anything other than cross country. I need it because my horse pulls when she really gets into jumps and sometimes will run through the bit it is not because of rider innability. I am going to be competing in barrels and 3 foot jumpers (both english, rockin.) What are any other bit suggestions? I cannot use gags. Any bit/martingale combos would be great too.
What is the reason that you can’t use it for anything but cross country? They are perfectly legal for jumping and I’d think they would be fine for barrels too since many people use bits much more severe than the dutch gag. It sounds like you have to move down to a snaffle, I would try a baucher, or hanging cheek, since it’s action when pulled is a small amount of leverage.
If the horse pulls/leans a running martingale wouldn’t do much good since it prevents the horse from throwing it’s head up not out. And for higher jumping and barrels a standing martingale wouldn’t be a good idea because it would restrict your horses head and neck movement.
