Is pasture board ok?
Ok my horse right now lives at my friends house and at her house he has a stall but the door opens right to the outside and during the summer they live the doors open so he is free to move in and out as he pleases. I would like to move my horse to a barn thats close to my college where I train with my equestrian team trainer and I can afford the pasture board at her house. She has a lean-two and she said if she knows its going to be like deathly cold out in the winter she will bring them into the indoor arena for the night (I live in Indiana where it can get really cold) but he does get this unbelieveable heavy winter coat and right now he is outside during the day everyday- winter or summer. I guess the only thing that is making me nervous is that there had been bad weather lately(heavy rain, thunder, lighting, tornado-ish weather) in the middle of the night and that would worry me a lot if I knew he was out there. I would like an opinion, of maybe who pasture boards already?
I’ve had horses since 1960. I’ve lived in Illinois and Minnesota, nice cold and stormy areas. I’ve always kept most of my horses on pasture board. They are much much better off with a nice lean to than shut up in a barn. This is the way horses are meant to live. If the weather is bad or the bugs are bad they’ll seek shelter.
