How do I tell my barn owner I need to leave?
I currently board at Belle Wood Equestrian Center and find that it doesn’t suit my needs as a stable, the instructor is not to my liking and they haven’t even started barn they promised to have up in October.
I’ve done my research and found a place that I totally love. I’m sure it’s the right place for me. I’ve taken lessons and love the coach, and it’s really awesome.
I also signed a boarding contract at Belle Wood, saying that I would give them 40 days notice if I were ever to leave. My horse just recently got there and I want her out ASAP so that she doesn’t fully settle. I think that’s the best way to go, knowing my horse, because she gets clingy sometimes.
How do I tell my barn owner that I need to go? She’s a real stickler for the rules, and at the barn I’m going to, they only have the stall free for 1 month, and that’s not enough time.
They’re already holding a stall for me… If not then I wouldn’t have 1 month to get in…
If the barn you are moving to has 1 month free then you really won’t be out a lot of money should your current barn hold you to 40 days notice. Talk to them and let them know that you are leaving and why. Maybe discuss a compromise and give them the 30 days since you won’t be there. You have already paid and so have time remaining and the next 30 will cover your 40 days and then some. For instance, today is the 8th, so September 18th would be your 40 days. You have paid for this month, pay 50% of September and move your horse. Also, if the horse isn’t in the stall, you don’t have to pay the full board for those days since there will be no consumption of food, etc.
