Do NFL players get taught general skills?
I know American football is a very specialized game, but does anyone think or know if ALL players get taught and coached all the fundamentals even in the professional level. What I mean is that would a QB still do some tackle drills so that in the event of a turnover, he isn’t gonna injure himself tackling the guy for example. Or on the other side of the ball, would a Linebacker do some catching drills or even ball running drills, so he knows what to do once has the ball.
I’m gonna have to leave this one to the voters, you all gave damn fine answers.
Players are general taught general skills it really depends on the coaching staff and the individual players.
Example: The baltimore ravens defense regularly practices returns (as in after an interception)
Example: Most kickers and punters go threw tackling drills in the event of a breakaway by the returner (though they are not really expected to make the tackle)
Example: Some, and i repeat some quarterback go threw tackling drills, i can almost guarantee that QB’s like Peyton Manning do not
Example: Defensive backs actually somewhat regularly do defensive lineman drills and vice versa
I hope this helped
